So What Wednesday!

It's that time of week again to link up with
the lovely Shannon from Life After I "Dew"
for another round of So What Wednesday!

So What...

*if I prefer tennis shoes and sweatshirts to bug spray in the summer time?

*if I make lists in my head at night as I'm falling asleep for what I need to do the next day?

*if I don't blow dry or curl my hair when I'm at camp?

*if I also don't put make up on when I'm at camp? I put my mosturizer/sun screen on but that's it!

*if I secretly kinda like the smell of skunk? When I was little a skunk family moved in underneath our house under my parents bedroom so the smell kinda reminds me of there room when I was little.

*if I love catching a whiff of my deoderant throughout the day? Not like I lift my arm up and smell my pits cuz I love it so much but when I'm moving around and I catch a little bit of it because if I can still smell then so can other people and I know that I don't stink... yet.

*if I always have a SWW note on the notebook app on my phone? When I think of something I've got to write it down otherwise I get to Wednesday and I've got nothing to say!

*if I'm still nailing down last minute details for Day Camp next week?

*if I'm still nailing down last minute details for our New Orleans trip next month?

*if I was in bed at 9:30 last night? This girl was tired!!

What are you saying So What to this week?
Head on over to Life After I "Dew" to see what everyone
else is So What-ing and to link up!

I did it...

I took the plunge and I ordered my Chacos.
I went ahead and ordered them in plain black instead of a color, that way I can wear them with lots of things. Hopefully they fit right when they get here!!
Now I'll just need to break them in before I leave for New Orleans in 24 days!!!!

Since I got free shipping on Amazon.com yesterday I also ordered these cuties:
They're BOBS not TOMS but that's ok. And they won't stay solid red for long. They're going to look like this when I'm done:
Or maybe this, I haven't decided:
I do like the bow that the 2nd pair has for Minnie.
I'm so excited!!!
I'm going to have to practice my painting skills with fabric paint to I can get the circles just right.
Then I can wear them to DisneyLand in January and hopefully DisneyWorld in February.

Yes, you read that right, lots of Disney for me next winter. My annual continuing eduation conference is in Anaheim in January and we're going on a family vacation in February. Nothings been nailed down for family vaca yet but there was talk of a cruise in the Gulf of Mexico and I'm pushing for leaving out of Orlando for that so I can go to Disney before we go cruising. Fingers crossed :)

Grad Gifts!

So a couple of weeks ago I posted about what to do for graduation gifts. This year the Mr and I were invited to 9 grad parties. Say what?? Grad gifts can get way out of hand on the cost really fast. We could just do a card or just do a card and a $5 or a $10 but that's kind of boring. So I decided to put together gift baskets for them with things that I could buy at the dollar store but things that we still be useful.

I ended up making 3 different baskets. 1 for kids from church that are moving away to college. 1 for kids from church that are staying at home and going to the tech here in our Nothern Town. And 1 for the kids that are on the Lutheran Youth Organization board here in NW MN with me (this last one I went in on with a bunch of adults).

So here they are.

Up first: kids from church that are moving away to college:
Apparently I forgot to take picture of them individually.
The ones for kids going away to college are on the left and the ones staying in town and going to the tech are on the right.

For the ones going away to college I made college survival kits. They have:
Reusable plastic plates, bowls, and cups for when you want to eat in your room.
Dish soap and a scrubbie to wash your dishes.
Microwave Mac'n'Cheese incase dinner in the dining hall is icky.
Microwave popcorn.
Hand sanitizer.
And ear plugs in case their roomie snores :)
Then it's all in a rubbermaid tote to keep and wash those dirty dishes in.

For the kids that are staying at home and going to the tech I made baskets that said "Just 'popping' by to say congrats!" And everything in the basket had 'pop' in the name. They include:
Pop
Pop rocks
Ring pops
Pop tarts
Blow pops or Tootsie pops
Popcorn

For all of these gifts, for all 9 kids I spent less than $90 at the Dollar Store. That's less than $10 a gift!! And I think, way cooler than a $10 bill.
We'll see how much I still like this idea when the Mr and I get invited to like 20 parties...

And for the kids on the LYO board I made these:
Pinned Image
I forgot to take a picture of the ones that I made but the saying says:
LOOK at you, SMARTIE pants!
You SKOR'ed high on tests and reached the PAYDAY of graduation.
Don't listen to SNICKERS that say you're a DUM DUM or NERD
cuz you are one HOT TAMALE in this MILKY WAY
on your way to making 100 GRAND
Hope your FAST BREAK of a summer is MOUNDS of fun!

HUGS and KISSES

All of the capitalized words are candy bars. Although I'm not sure what a LOOK is.
I forgot the last line when I was shopping for ours so our kids didn't get fast break or mounds bars.
Then we gave them Bibles with our favorite verses highlighted and the verses that we've used at our synod gatherings for the past two years.
Between the number of adults that went in on the gifts and the nubmer of seniors we had, as adults we ended up spending barely over $4 per senior, for everything- the candy basket and the Bibles! Doesn't get much better than that!

So What Wednesday

It's that time of the week again! Time to link up with
Shannon from Life After I "Dew" for So What Wednesday!

Here's what I'm saying So What to this week:

*if I prefer to make cookies from scratch and not from the box/bag mix where all you have to do is add eggs and oil?

*if it's late Saturday afternoon as I'm writing this and a few other posts for this week? I don't want you guys to miss me while I'm gone all week!

*if I am totally looking forward to "unplugging" for a whole week?

*but I'm really hoping that these scheduled posts work!!

*if I just want to spend all summer at the lake?

*if I hesitate to comment on facebook pictures or status updates because I don't want all of the updates/emails when other people comment on them too?

*if I'm nervous about driving the bus to camp? We have too many kids going (great problem to have!) and they don't all fit in our church van so we had to borrow a bus from another church in town...

*if I am still in love with my craft room? I could spend all day in there!!

*if I'm trying to find a way to convince the Mr to let me order 2 pair of TOMS and a pair of Chacos?

*if I'm still finding and pinning wedding ideas on pinterest? I guess I'm hopeful that someone (a few someones!) will ask for my help someday.

*if I read all three 50 Shades books in less than 2 weeks?

Swap into Spring goodies!

When I saw that Sarah and Amber were hosting this blog swap I thought "Sweet! I love blog swaps & that is a totally resonable price point!" So, like any blog swap we got our partners and I got paired with Cynithia from "Ramblings of a Brunette". Go check her out, I'll wait.

Isn't she cute?

Then I forgot about the swap. I went to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis-St. Paul) for a wedding. I got busy at work. You know how life is. Well last Monday I got an e-mail from Cynithia asking for my address so she could send me my swap gift. Crap! I didn't have anything. I felt SSOOOO bad!! So I quick made her a few things and dropped them in the mail to her. Thankfully she didn't mail her stuff til Tuesday either so we were even. Whew! If you want to see what I made her- go check out her blog but here's what she sent me:
I got this sweet green notebook/journal.
This is totally at camp with me this week- love it!
She also sent this picture frame.
I'm thinking I need to print off a wedding picture of the whole family for this one.
And Ultra Conditioning Burt's Bees.
Also at camp with me this week :)

Thank you Cynithia!! I love it all!
Hope you like the stuff I sent.

CAMP!!!

I'm leaving for camp tomorrow!! Whoop-whoop! I love going to camp with my kiddos from church. I like that I get to let someone else do the "heavy lifting" and I just get to be in the moment with them. I also like it because it's a break from the everyday for me, I get to relax when I go to camp. I'll be taking some craft projects with me so I'll have work to do but it'll be fun work :)

I'm trying to get some posts written up today and scheduled for this week so I don't totally drop off the internets because I won't have a computer at camp and even if I did the wireless is so-so. Wish me luck! Not sure if this scheduling business will work for me!!

So What Wednesday

It's that time again!
Time to link up with Shannon from Life After I "Dew"
to say "So What?"

So What...

*if I really need to "clean up" my facebook? I'm friends with people that I don't know & I don't really care what everyone ate for lunch, what they're doing minute by minute this afternoon or when they went potty last.

*if I play blog favorites? They are some that I read everyday and some that I just check on every now and then.

*if I almost always check out as a guest when shopping online instead of creating an account?

*if I think of things during the week then forget them when it comes time to write this post?

*if I prefer to spend evenings in my craft room working on things instead of having cuddle time on the couch with my Mr?

*if I mailed my blog swap gift today and it was suppose to be mailed on Monday? My partner mailed hers late too so it's ok... right?

*if I read 50 Shades Freed for 1 1/2 hours this morning then had to get ready for work in 10 mins?

What are you saying So What to this week?

2nd dates

I never really went on 'dates' in high school. I didn't really have boyfriends. I had one boyfriend in 7th grade. His name was (and still is) Dan. I told him that I loved him. We dated on and off for 6th months. Then he went to high school and left me in middle school, the night before school started he called to break up with me. I was crushed.

Then in high school there was Brice. We dated for a while during our senior year but we went to different schools. He broke up with me 2 weeks before the prom at my school. Again, I was crushed.

I didn't really date boys in college. Sure I had crushes, I dreamt about boys, but I didn't really date any.

The Mr and I started hanging out shortly after my 21st birthday, the fall of my junior year of college. I say hanging out because we weren't "offically" boyfriend and girlfriend yet. And we didn't really go on dates. The first time we went out was with my mom and her best friend for drinks. Then again with a big group of people over Thanksgiving break, then he went to the Christmas concert at my college with my family. Then over Christmas break he asked me to be his girlfriend. After that it was just kind of assumed that we would hang out together on the weekends when I didn't have class and he didn't have to work. But those times were usually watching a movie or making dinner. We never really made plans, we never really had that ackward blind date or ending of a date where you don't really know if you'll see each other again.

So, from that brief history you can see that I am not well versed at 2nd dates (or 1st dates for that matter).

I'm telling you this because to me, finding new friends feels a lot like dating. I've met people out and about. I've been out with groups before. But I never know how to "close the deal". I don't know how to get their phone numbers or to make plans to hang out again. It's like I'm nervous and I don't know if they want to hang out with me so I just don't ask because I don't want to look desperate.

But I am desperate!!

Is it this hard for everyone? How do you "close the deal" and get the 2nd friend date?

Love, Mrs. K
